FAQ

I’VE NEVER HEARD OF CAROLINA RADIOLOGY WHY DO I GET A BILL FROM THEM?

Carolina Radiology is a team of physicians who provide medical imaging services to institutions such as hospitals and medical practices. At these facilities, our radiologists interpret or “read” imaging exams, perform minimally-invasive, image-guided surgical and diagnostic procedures, consult with other physicians on test selection and treatment planning, and provide other imaging-related services.

Some of the services we provide, such as interventional radiology procedures, involve direct interaction between the patient and one of our physicians. However, our role in many instances is “behind the scenes.” If one of our physicians interpreted your X-ray, mammogram, CT scan, MRI, or other imaging exam, you probably didn’t interact with them.

Bills for the services we provide are sent to the patient or insurance company separately from bills for services from the facility where you received your care. That’s why you will see a bill from Carolina Radiology even though you may not have seen one of our doctors.

WHAT ARE MY PAYMENT OPTIONS?

For patients with an appointment for imaging procedures at one of our partner facilities, payment in full of any portion of the procedure’s cost that will not be covered by insurance will be required. Our partner institution will likely discuss payment and insurance details with you when scheduling your appointment. However, to contact Carolina Radiology to discuss matters such as payment plan options or pricing for cash payment or self-payment, please contact our billing department prior to your appointment at 800-841-4236.

WILL MY PROCEDURE BE COVERED BY MY INSURANCE?

The cost of your imaging procedure will depend on a number of factors, such as our agreements with insurers and your insurance status. If you have health insurance, you may still have out-of-pocket costs ranging from a co-pay or portion to the full cost of the procedure, depending on factors such as the type of procedure, the details of your policy’s coverage for different types of diagnostic imaging services, or the portion of any applicable deductible that you have already met.

The cost of your procedure is also likely to include a combination of fees from both Carolina Radiology and from the facility where you have your procedure. If your insurance plan covers services from the facility where your procedure is scheduled as an in-network or out-of-network provider, coverage for our services is likely to be included as well, but may also be subject to co-pays and deductibles.

To fully understand your potential costs, it is best to call your insurance company prior to your appointment. They are in the best position to advise you about coverage for the test your physician has ordered.

CAN I PAY MY BILL ONLINE?

Yes. You can use Carolina Radiology’s online bill pay system to access your account and pay your bill for any services Carolina Radiology has provided. Note that the hospital or facility where you received your care, will bill separately for other services provided. Click here to access our online billing system.

DO NEED A PHYSICIAN REFFERAL BEFORE I CAN HAVE AN IMAGING EXAM?

In most cases, you will need a prescription from your primary care physician or specialist before an appointment can be scheduled. If you have questions about the need for a referral, please contact your insurance provider.

HOW CAN I SCHEDULE A APPOINTMENT?

If your doctor has recommended an imaging test, please contact one of our partner facilities to schedule your appointment. In most cases, you will want to select a location that is convenient for you and accepts your health insurance.

ARE APPOINTMENTS NEED FOR AN IMAGING EXAM?

Generally, yes. Depending on the policy and availability at local imaging provider locations, same-day appointments may be available. Some facilities may even offer walk-in appointments for some types of exams.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY PROCEDURE?

The facility where you are scheduling your procedure, and/or the physician ordering the procedure, will provide you with information on how to prepare.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM AN IMAGING EXAM?

See the Specialties section of our website for brief descriptions of each procedure. The facility where your exam is scheduled may also provide you with additional information.

WHEN WILL I KNOW THE RESULTS FROM MY EXAM?

Our goal is to provide prompt reporting of results to your referring physician. Turnaround times vary by study, location and depend on the patient’s medical situation.
